🇨🇭 Swiss U18 at EU Nations Junior Women Water Polo Tournament in Brno 🤽‍♀️

From November 22–24, the Swiss U18 women’s national team competed in the EU Nations Tournament in Brno, Czech Republic. Despite a challenging start with three losses in the group stage, the team didn’t lose heart.

In the semifinals, they turned things around with a commanding 7:2 victory against the British Hawks. On the final day, they fought hard and triumphed against England Sheffield - whom they had lost to earlier - securing a well-deserved 5th place 💪🏼

This tournament was a valuable experience, highlighting the importance of determination, team spirit, and never giving up.

👏 Congratulations to the players and coaches Vladimir Bajkovic and Ashkan Hesabian for the performandces in Brno and huge thank you for their dedication and effort for Swiss water polo!

🏆🤽‍♂️
Two more interregional tournaments took place in November, the U16 in Carouge and the U18 in Frauenfeld.

An exciting weekend full of water polo action is behind us! On 23-24 November, the best U18 teams in Switzerland competed in Frauenfeld, delivering impressive performances.

In the end, team ROS was able to secure the victory:
1️⃣ ROS – Tournament champions with a dominant performance - 8 points, 4 wins, +54 goal difference 🥇
2️⃣ RZO – 6 points, 3 wins, +15 🥈
3️⃣ RSR – 4 points, 2 wins, +2 🥉
4️⃣ RSI – 2 points, 1 wins, - 19
5️⃣ RZW – 0 points, - 52

👉 ROS demonstrated excellent teamwork, securing the tournament win in a decisive match against RZO (6:13).
👉 RZO maintained a perfect record until the final, where they faced a tough defeat against ROS.
👉 RSR impressed with solid defensive play, clinching several thrilling victories.
👉 RSI secured a clear win against RZW, showcasing great determination.
👉 RZW fought valiantly, never giving up – an amazing experience for the young players!

On 9-10 November, an intense weekend of water polo showcased the talent of U16 teams from RSI, ROS, RZO, RZW, and RSR. After many hard-fought matches, the team RZO won the tournament.
1️⃣ RZO: 8 points, 4 wins (1 in penalties), +49 goal difference 🥇
2️⃣ RSR: 6 points, 3 wins, +59 🥈
3️⃣ ROS: 4 points, 2 wins, +16 🥉
4️⃣ RSI: 2 points, 1 win, -2
5️⃣ RZW: 0 points, - 122

👉 RZO claimed victory after a dramatic penalty shootout against RSR.
👉 RSR's strong offensive play secured them second place, despite narrowly missing first due to penalties.
👉 Top scorer of the tournament: Gian Kluser (SC St. Gallen) with 13 goals, followed by Omael Jaquier (Carouge Natation) with 12.

Five regional teams from all over Switzerland will compete in the beautiful Schlossbadi Frauenfeld and promise exciting competitions. The young athletes from the RSI, ROS, RZW, RSR and RZO teams have been preparing intensively for this event for months and are highly motivated to demonstrate their skills and bring home a medal. Spectators can look forward to exciting matches and impressive team performances. The event offers an excellent opportunity to discover the talents of tomorrow and encourage the passion for water polo. 🤩

🚨 U18 Women’s National Team Heads to the EU Nations Tournament! 🤽‍♂️🇨🇭

From November 22 to 24, 2024, our U18 Women’s National Water Polo Team will compete in the EU Nations Junior Women Water Polo Tournament in Brno, Czech Republic. This tournament marks an important milestone on the road to the U18 European Championship 2025 in Malta, providing the team with valuable experience and assessment opportunities!

Our Team 🔥🤽‍♂️
- 15 talented athletes, including five from the U16 team
- For many players, this is their first international tournament – a milestone in their careers! 🤩
- The team is led by Head Coach Vladimir Bajkovic and Assistant Coach Ashkan Hesabian. Our referee Jan Buob, who is also gaining crucial international experience, will be in action as well.

3T in Tenero - The Olympic fire has gone out, but our passion burns on! 🔥🤽‍♂️

After an intensive week (23-27 September) at the National Youth Sports Centre Tenero, we can look back with pride at what the young athletes have achieved. 🌟 Despite the rain, there were daily training sessions, exciting workshops on doping prevention, sports psychology and the values of competitive sport. 💪🏽

One of the highlights? The "Mini- Super-10-Kampf" and an inspiring evening at the "Chat with a Champion" with guests such as Noè Ponti and Peter Haas!

For the participants' free time, three zones were also set up in the name of the Olympic values: the Friendship Zone to socialise across sports, the Respect Zone to relax and the Excellence Zone to do schoolwork, for example.

RZO dominated the U14 Interregio Tournament 2024,

RZO dominated the U14 Interregio Tournament 2024, which took place on the weekend of 21/22 September in Basel, and secured the tournament victory unbeaten. 🥳💪

The defending champions started strongly on Saturday with a clear 25:6 win over RZW. Other highlights of the first day included a thrilling duel between RSI and RZO, which was narrowly won by RZO 13:11, and the second victory for RSR, who triumphed 16:13 against RSI.

On Sunday, RSI beat ROS 15-5 and later secured third place with a 26-11 win over RZW. RZO defeated RSR 12:7 in the final game and became the well-deserved tournament winners. The tournament's top scorer was Matéo Castrilli from RSR, who finished the tournament in second place. RSI showed a strong reaction after two defeats on Saturday and finished in third place. ROS won only one game, while RZW unfortunately could not keep up with their opponents for more than two quarters in any game and had to end the tournament without a win.

RZO was the best team over the two days and deservedly won the U14 Interregio Tournament 2024.

We would like to congratulate RZO on winning the tournament and all the other teams on their performances! 👏

On September 15, 2024, the Women's Cup Final Four

On September 15, 2024, the Women's Cup Final Four tournament took place at St. Jakob Bad in Basel. 🤽‍♀️🏆🇨🇭

Four teams competed for the title: SC Winterthur, SC Horgen, WK Thun, and the host team WSV Basel.

In the first semifinal, Winterthur confidently defeated Horgen. The second semifinal was a rematch of the playoff final, where Basel dominated against Thun.

In the thrilling final that followed, Basel faced Winterthur. Despite a strong comeback by Winterthur in the third quarter, Basel secured a 12-9 victory, completing the double by winning both the Swiss championship and the cup title. 💪

On 7 September, the Strandbad Thun was the impressive venue for the exciting Final Four tournament of the U17 and U20 women's water polo championships.

The whole afternoon was characterised by top-class water polo, full of commitment from the players and a great atmosphere around the pool.

With the double victory, Zug/Aegeri/Horgen has achieved an impressive result of this year's championship and secured its place at the top of the women's youth water polo in Switzerland. Congratulations! 🥳💪

Ursula Wengenroth Martinelli says goodbye, and Swiss Aquatics thank you ❤️

Her impressive career as a water polo referee makes Ursula Wengenroth Martinelli an important personality in this sport. 🤽‍♂️ She can look back on a total of around 94 away assignments, 300 international matches and held the highly esteemed presidency of the Women Committee of the WWR from 2011 to 2022. In 2023, she reached with her son Peter a special milestone: the first family in history with two generations on the LEN list!

One highlight of her career was her participation in the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. 🤩

Her last international assignement was at the Women's Euro Cup in April 2024 in Trieste, Italy, refereering the final. Ursula refereed the last game of her long career on 16 July 2024 in Kreuzlingen, where she and her son Peter were the officials of the third game of the play-off final between SC Kreuzlingen and SC Horgen.

Swiss Aquatics Water Polo would like to express its gratitude to her for all she did for Swiss water polo and wish her all the best for the future. ❤️
